I am CJ Stevens and I write Science Fiction and the Morgan Olsen Detective books
Hypernaturals is about how could Vampires be real, not supernatural? No glowing eyes and turning into bats.
To fit the various meme’s about them, they had to be strong, and fast, and able to seduce humans without any trouble. One person I was talking to about this idea told me that ‘Vampires are pure sex’ and that seemed so when I read other Vampire books and looked at the old movies. Vampires are about seduction and I had to figure out how that might work.
As I developed the rules for the world, I realized, as I am sure most writers do, that the rules also contained things. If I was not going to be able to insert various Deus ex machina style escapes, I suddenly had to follow my own rules. For example: To be able to live 10,000 years and drink blood meant an immune system that would make a shark envious. To be able to regenerate a body part meant the body had an immensely better idea than average of what is ‘me’ and what is ‘not me’ and what is missing from me. That meant damage would be fixed. That meant Vampire can’t, for example, have tattoos. I did not mean for that to happen. I could not figure my way around it.
